Some weeks there simply isn't enough of me to go around, and this was one of them.
There's been a lot going on behind the scenes for me personally these past few weeks, much more than I expected, and the kind that life saves up and drops all at once, reordering everything in its wake.
The feed went quiet. The inbox went quiet. Life, on the other hand, did not.
Slow isn't always a choice
We talk a lot around here about slow, considered living, pieces made to last, nothing rushed. It's an easy thing to write about when life is calm... it's an entirely different thing to actually live it when your own weeks have been anything but! We talk about slow fashion as something intentional, and mostly it is.
But some of the slowest, most honest stretches happen because life demands it of you, not because you circled it on a planning calendar with good intentions. There's a difference between choosing to slow down and having no other option and it's probably worth being honest about which one this was.
What slow fashion actually asks of you
It's made me think differently about what slow fashion actually asks of you too. It gets talked about mostly in terms of fabric and production, buying less, choosing well, letting a piece earn its place rather than replacing it every season. What doesn't get talked about as much is that living slowly, in any part of life, usually means accepting that things won't move at the pace you'd planned or that others may expect. That's a harder thing to sit with than we like to admit.
What I've learned from doing it imperfectly
Running a small business while raising two little ones was never going to look like a tidy content calendar every single week and I think I've finally stopped apologising to myself for that. Some weeks I'm dreaming up prints and planning collections. Other weeks I'm just getting everyone fed, dressed and out the door in one piece and the business waits its turn. Both of those are still me running this brand, even if only one of them makes it onto the feed.
Why I'm sharing this
I don't think running this brand needs to mean hiding behind a perfectly scheduled feed, pretending everything behind it is just as tidy. If you're in your own version of a juggle right now, whatever that looks like for you today, I see you. Truly.
Still here 🤍
In the middle of all of it, some genuinely exciting things have been quietly taking shape behind the scenes. A new piece joining our much-loved Celestial range. A Spring collection finding its final form ready for launch in September.
We can't wait to share both with you very soon.
